Thanks to this, the communication data between the server and the users of the website is encrypted, which makes the work of hackers much more difficult. Browsers (such as firefox, chrome, etc.) show a lock before the site address, which increases the sense of security and trust of visitors. It also helps with SEO. Google has already announced since 2014 that it is taking into account the presence of an SSL certificate, and is giving these websites a small bonus on how high they rank in search results.
